The Neuro-Oncology Program at the NCI-designated H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, is rapidly growing. We are members of the NCI-sponsored brain tumor consortium, NABTT, "New Approaches to Brain Tumor Therapy", and treat approximately 250 new patients with brain tumors per year. The program is protocol-driven with up to 30% of the patients on experimental protocols. There is a "team approach" with expertise in medical neuro-oncology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, radiation oncology (Peacock, X-knife), stereotactic surgery, radiosurgery, psychosocial counseling, speech therapy, nutritional counseling, physiotherapy, etc. There are strong links with brain tumor groups such as the ABTA, CBTRUS, SFBTA, and Angels in the Sun. Specific clinical interests of Dr. Brem include: microsurgery, "inoperable" tumors (motor/speech areas), implantable wafers, skull base tumors, pituitary tumors, multifocal tumors, and minimally invasive, image-guided 3-D neuronavigation. Research interests include: anti-angiogenesis therapy, translational research, image-guided neurosurgery. State-of-the-art technologyat the cancer center includes cortical mapping, functional MRI, and MR spectroscopy.
