(0.8792)   Is an Arachnoid Cysts considered a tumor?

(0.7967)   Is an arachnoid cyst 4.25 cm x 1.7 cm in the left middle cranial fossa with a mass effect on the temporal lobe concerning?

(0.7967)   I am the mother of a 18-year-old son who was diagnosed with an Arachnoid cyst four years ago. It was as a result of loss of function in his hand and migraine headaches that we had a CT scan done and found the cyst. He was then seen by two doctors at the children's hospital in Vancouver. His symptoms had subsided by the time that we went to his appointment and they told us to watch for further symptoms and other than that everything should be fine. Within the last 18 months he has shown a subtle but noticable change in his personality and has turned against his family and friends. I am at a loss as to whether or not this could be manifesting as a part of a potential change in the cyst. My doctor has lost him as a patient since he has moved out of the house and we have no way of knowing the credentials of the other doctor that he has seen. He did have another CT done and the results were interpreted by the new doctor. No specialist has been seen and the sad thing is that no one but his family seems to be aware of the changes in character. I have two other sons and enough experience with them to know that this is not something to ignore or simply say that it is typical rebellion. Please at least contact me to let me know of some avenue or resource center that I can contact.

(0.7967)   How do you recognise when arachnoid cysts are growing, getting bigger, and drainage is needed?

(0.7967)   My daughter, age 29, was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst in her brainstem three years ago. The doctor said he would drain the cyst and insert a shunt. After surgery, he said he "shredded" the cyst but did not install the shunt. He said it would not return. Now she is diagnosed as having a tumor in the same location. When she asked her current doctor if it is usual for a cyst to transform into a tumor or if this is a rare circumstance, he said he did not know; he did not have an answer for her. Her mother and I are concerned that she has not been receiving adequate medical advice/treatment. Can you tell us if this change from a cyst to a tumor has been encountered before? Is it rare for this to happen?

(0.7967)   My first cousin has a cyst between her right and left brain. She is 45 years old. Would you please give me some explanation as to whether she needs surgery or if the cyst will grow more, and what is the solution?

(0.7967)   I am a healthy young lady, 19 years old. I have been recently diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst on my brain and the size is 9 cm. I never experienced headaches until this year. I have been feeling lightheaded with blurry vision. I have an upcoming surgery in June and I want to know the pros and cons. The doctors told me that I probably had it since birth but I was a premature baby, with a twin. I got my medical records and it does not show that I had it before. I am concerned for my twin sister, Is it genetic?

(0.7967)   My son is hydrocephalic, has 2 VP shunts, one in an arachnoid cyst, and slit ventricle syndrome. My question is: is there enough water around his spine being he is so shunted? I wonder about his back; does a shunted person have enough spinal fluid? His spine seems concaved and rounded shoulders. He is 14 and I noticed his back is not flat?

(0.7742)   After a RTA Head injury 2 years ago I blacked out and suffered 2 fits. MRI identified an arachnoid cyst on the left of my brain - behind my ear. I was given anticonvulsants for 3mths only then told not to worry and return for a check in 12mths. Over the next 12mths I began to experience nausea, followed by numbess/tingling in my right arm - on a monthly cycle. My GP sent me for nerve/muscle tests (all ok) and my BP was found to be high (I now take 50mg Atenelol p/d and BP ok). 12mths ago I has a seizure again at work and blacked out. Hence I have been taking anti epilepsy drugs again now for 12mths, seizure free and I am driving again. My motor skills in my right hand however have worsened and I now struggle to type and write and brush my teeth. Over last 2mths this has resulted in a tremor in my right lower arm. I am struggling to know how to get advice from my Neuro specialist (side effect of medication/or something else? Pls advise how I can instigate speedy and correct diagnosis - appt due now 7/10/03. (I am otherwise a healthy 31year old female - also taking the contraceptive pill - linked?) Pls advise!
